@Todd if I wasn’t so peaceful shots should be fired at the various statements being made about women's rationale.

I know I cracked a joke or two, but am I really getting out of line?

@Todd if I wasn't so peaceful shots should be fired at the various statements being made about women's rationale. Yes I know some women can bust out a quadratic equation regarding a dude but personally I keep it simple. I try not to even dance with a dude who is a no. I have mastered avoiding eye contact. If it comes down to it I will politely and directly say no thank you to dancing, no thank you cannot have my number, and no thank you we cannot be friends. Namaste.

“to men, a woman is a 1 until we know she isn’t; whereas with women, a man is presumed a 0 until he shows himself not to be.”

TRUTH. unless you're famous, and preconceptions take over and make a 0 seem like a shining 1 (think alarmingly skinny models - hang out enough in that world and they start looking attractive)

My ex told me she and her cousin played the Yes/No game with each other (on a sheet of paper, no less) as everyone in our study abroad program introduced ourselves.

1-10 is for fun. The practical aspect of thinslicing the opposite gender is binary, like Ian stated.

"You may be right that the binary scale doesn’t work for women. It is extremely rational, efficient and pain free, so I can see where the difficulty might arise."

Shots fired?

"to men, a woman is a 1 until we know she isn’t; whereas with women, a man is presumed a 0 until he shows himself not to be."

Preach!

Good stuff as always, Ian.

Women (me) may have less yes(es) on any given day but I think the quick judgment is still being made.

Yeah. I think the fundamental difference between men and women (when it comes to this) is that to men, a woman is a 1 until we know she isn't; whereas with women, a man is presumed a 0 until he shows himself not to be.

It's pretty tough to demonstrate all of the virtues it takes to be a 1 in the scope of a first impression, so most of us get lumped in the 0 or undecided pile.

@Be...wow you mean business. You're right most ladies I know get a hand in there somehow and figure it out : )

@Ian I think I was just so disturbed I wanted to hit person with a hell no but you're right a no will suffice.

I think women can still work with the binary system since it isn't static so alchol, slumpbusting, money, personality, can make a person a yes. But if you don't meet Be's standard to get on the ride, you're back at no. Women (me) may have less yes(es) on any given day but I think the quick judgment is still being made.

Sigh. I don't understand where all the confusion is coming in. It's like I showed you a flower and asked if it's green or blue, and now everyone's scratching their heads trying to figure out if it's chartreuse or lime. The shit is just green people.

@ Rosy

Thanks for the props, but regarding the he/she, there are no negatives on the scale.

I'll cite the original post for clarification: Operate on a binary scale. One and Zero, Yes and No. Any further categorization or rating is superfluous and irrelevant.

@ Slick

On occasion some ladies have become 1's where at other times they might have been zero's. Either due to alcohol consumption, general hornyness, or whatever. So no, the line between 1 and 0 is not static. But don't worry about that. You're over thinking this shit. To borrow (and completely subvert) a favorite phrase of Lake's - "Your penis is your Sheppard. He know what you want." Now, all you've got to do is listen.

@ Be

You may be right that the binary scale doesn't work for women. It is extremely rational, efficient and pain free, so I can see where the difficulty might arise. I'm living off arithmetic and you ladies are out here doing multi-variable calculus.....god bless you, but I don't even wanna try to figure you guys out (when you guys figure yourselves out let me know, ha!).

@ Brock:

Ha! The one and only person I ever shut down actually fell too far outside my upper specification limit. I usually find a reasonable excuse to inspect the merchandise beforehand (or just ask to see it, since guys really don't care), but with this dude I didn't. Six months wasted on that surprise. Some stuff is good only on pornos.

I make it a policy to see what a guy is working with well before I decide to act on any attraction, so itsy bitsy spiders will not climb up my water spout. Nor will they ever suffer the humiliation of getting categorically dismissed, although I'm not above doing so. Hate to be so ill, but it takes a lot for me to go there so I'm not going to waste anyone's time if I don't feel it's a worthwhile endeavor.
