Damn Homey: Jermain Taylor got KTFO!
Posted by Brock Hardon | Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

There is one universal truth about boxing.  There aren’t too many fighters who get the opportunity to retire gracefully.  Those who retire undefeated are said to retire too early, retire at the top of their game.  Everyone else, they get retired.  Boxers don’t get old gradually, they get old during a fight. Before you get old, you are fast enough not to get hit, and when you are not, you just aren’t fast enough anymore and you get knocked out.  Roy Jones Jr. was impossible to beat…until he was possible to hit.  Then all hell broke loose.  Now you’ve got Jermain Taylor.  He was the man who made Bernard Hopkins look like a bum.

But after the Pavlik fights, Taylor started to lose a step.  Then finally Boxing caught a hint and threw together the “Super 6″ event.  Take the 6 best guys in a weight class and make them all fight until you have an undisputed champ.  I like it.  Well, Taylor put up a solid effort last weekend, but was behind in the cards and needed a knockout.

I don’t think that was the kind of knockout he was looking for right there.  My boy Money J said that is the definition of “right on the button”.  I haven’t seen a boxer go down that hard in a long time.  The ref only counted to 7 before he shut it down.

Hey Jermain.  The party is over.  You are officially retired.  I hope you are a good trainer, or decent on the commentary mic, because no one should let you step into the ring anymore.  Time to shut it down.

That reminded me of a Wu Tang interlude circa 1994, “izzy dead??? uhhh…izzy dead???” Yeah, that uncontrollable hand movement when he hit the canvas was nothin nice….Kinda scary…kinda strokesque! He really needs to hang it up before he’s eating through a straw.
