There is one thing about being an asshole. You can be a little bit of a jerk and get through life okay. But you are a big, notorious asshole, everyone is waiting for you to make one little slip, and they are going to take you out. Say what you want to about Rush Limbaugh. I think he is an entertainer first. That said, he also needs to recognize his power because there are a lot of people who believe what he is saying, probably more that Rush believes it himself.
Rush found out what happens when he sticks his head back into the real world. Rush Limbaugh was a minority stakeholder in a group that was interested in buying the St Louis Rams. And it lasted about three days before everyone started rallying against him. Not a little bit either. We’re not talking about “let’s see what happens”, not “his entertainment personality is different from who he is as a person, so he can make a business deal”, no. We’re talking about the head of the NFL Players association urging players to speak out against the bid. Al Sharpton was ready to stage a protest. Players were saying they weren’t going to play for him. The rams gave him the official stiff arm.
Mark Cuban said, “There is an unquantifiable risk that comes with the size of Rush’s audience,” Cuban wrote. “The wrong thing said on the show, even if its not spoken by Rush himself, about a sensitive national or world issue could turn into a Black Swan event for the NFL.” Mark Cuban thinks Rush might say something crazy? Damn, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. If that was bad, finally, the decider of the NFL, Roger Goodell hit Rush with the official nilla please.
Roger Goodell said, “divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about. I’ve said many times before, we’re all held to a high standard here. I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL — absolutely not.”
You know good and well the big boss man shuts it down with no remorse. Rush, in a classic Rush Limbaugh way…blamed the left.
“This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me,” Limbaugh said. “This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.”
Never your fault, right Rush? Don’t you understand that every time you pull the liberal card, it is as bad as someone pulling the race card you hate so much? You can be a dick in your own arena, you’ve made plenty of money doing it, but you need to understand that people ARE NOT going to have your back. You need to realize it is okay. Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman did not huddle up with President Obama, Roger Goodell and John Madden and decide you were a bad dude. They just don’t want you to get any of your stank on them. It’s okay though, I know a dream just faded away, I’m sure you’ll find a way to cope.
Meanwhile, the Rams suck. I mean they really, really suck.
Rush was definitely trying to buy low. Someone call Kurt Warner. Someone get Marshall Faulk. Hell, tell Eric Dickerson and Deacon Jones to strap up. These boys need some help. That dude Stephen Jackson has to feel like he’s in purgatory. Putting miles on his body for no good reason.

Jay-Z owns part of the Nets and makes anti-white statements during Obama inauguration weekend. Vick is allowed back into NFL after his conviction. You either do or do not value free speech. The hypocrisy runs deep with you. I continue to enjoy your ass n J posts. However your political slant just kills me braugh.
Who said anything about free speech other than you? Nobody. It’s not about free speech, it’s about winning, and it’s about $. Fans don’t really get that sanctimonious about players wild’n out because they accept (rightly or wrongly) that playmakers who win games occasionally go nuts and break the law. (See: Brandon Marshall)
Rush won’t make any plays. And he won’t win any games. But, he will be the face and voice of a franchise. And when you’ve already got a slew of haters because you talk too much, what makes you think that’s a good business proposition for the NFL. A conservative ought to recognize the distinction between free speech and sh*t you can’t say/deals you can’t make because it hurts the bottom line. Or: should the NFL be forced to take someone it doesn’t want involved in its operations because Rush Limbaugh has free speech rights? Of course not.
Quit whining. It ain’t hypocrisy. Rush is a douche. The lesson to be learned is one that conservatives have been trying to push on everyone else for years (and one that actually has merit): your actions have consequences. He goes hard on radio against everyone else, and that don’t really work for him when other people get a say-so, too.
Rush Limbaugh doesn’t care about black people and since the NFL is 70% black he should just walk down know your role blvd, hook a left on jabroni drive and check his punk ass direc-it-tally into the Smackdown hotel. It turns out there are consequences for being an asshole. Great.
Ha, black conservative. that’s a joke. Jay Z makes anti white statements? Like what? Name it player.
“No more war, no more Iraq, no more white lies, the President is blaaaack”
That’s about all I see. Look, Rush can’t talk sh*t about black cats and even black conservatives know he’s dismissive at best and offensive at worst to black causes and leaders, and expect to own a squad with a workforce that is 2/3 black.. That’s just basic. Cats don’t go to NYC, talking anti Semitic shiz and expect to get put on in banking… It’s just the way of the world, son. And with Vick, he’s got a 1 in a million talent. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be in the NFL, trust. Rush aint got “special money” and money alone doesn’t get you in that elite club of NFL owners… Nah, take your punk ass back to hate mongering and lying about the “Democrat Party,” etc.
Black Conserve, stick to titties my man…. I’m sure you’ve got great ideas on that level. Do share.
I am not a Rush fan, by any stretch of the imagination, but I see the resistance to Rush as more symbolic than substantive. Since it was more of an emotional and visceral reaction to Rush having some ownership in a high profile sports franchise, the decision to ban him wasn’t based on logic or good business sense and mistakes were made.
I like to read news from both the left and the right, and it appears that the quotes attributed to Rush, he either didn’t say or he was misquoted.
Which means, Rush now has an excellent case of libel sitting on his fat lap. If he doesn’t run with it he is a fool.
Since the Rams are my team…correction, the LA Rams are my team, I only hope the NFL takes em back to LA sometime soon. I don’t care who owns them, just take them back.
ok, that was TOO FUNNY! First of all, the “Conservative Movement” is a joke. IF u ain’t Ron Paul, u really ain’t a “Conservative.” A “Black Conservative” is even more laughable. How can you be a pro-business Conservative and fault a business for making a decision that is in their best interest? Lake makes a great point. The only Black athletes employed by professional sports teams are those who have exceptional skills and who make money for the franchise ( a la Mike Vick). A brotha with Luke Walton skills can’t even play in the NBDL. In fact, u can bet that professional sports would still be segregated if brothas hasn’t been slangin baseballs faster, stealin bases better or hitting balls harder than their white counterparts. It’s always been about business.
I always felt that Rush should be allowed to pursue NFL ownership because I’d hate to deny his right to do so. I would also hate for the NFL to be denied the right to manage their brand. That’s a free market decision and Rush should applaud that decision if he’s a true conservative.
It’s also funny that you mention Jay-Z because he actually has a great song on his new album where he talks about Rush and his ideas on race relations. Check it here:

It’s evident that Jay’s not racist. Even if he had made a racist statement at an Obama event (which is VERY debatable) Rush doesn’t garner this type of opposition due to one comment. His career is BUILT on racist statements. Sorry player, he made his bed

Brock,
Interesting write up on the legal issues surrounding the rejection of Rush.

Again, I do not listen to or support Rush in any way, and as a fan of McNabb I found his opinion repulsive. But the NFL may have overstepped on this.
@Okolepuka
The author of the article you linked misses a basic point in all of this: The group that is allegedly (the team is NOT for sale right now) vying for the purchase of the St. Louis Rams dropped Rush because he was an a-hole and thus, bad for business. That’s not the action of the NFL and thus, fails to implicate anti trust laws, boycotts or any other cause of action I can think of. Don’t accuse me of being a lawyer, but I believe this issue here is a complete and utter lack of standing.
Moreover, who is to say that the NFL is blocking Rush at all? Let him raise funds and make an offer on a team. There is no legal issue here. Rush is a dude that probably doesn’t believe 75% of what his character says on his radio show. He’s a rabble rousing clown that just learned the consequence of being racist, ignorant, tasteless (see his criticism of Michael J. Fox) and generally insensitive. I say all of this, in short, to say, Fuck a Rush. He’s a jackass that just got what he deserved. And for all your thousadaires, defending Rush’s right to spit hate and lies that support the lifestyle of true millionaires…. eat a dick. I sincerely mean that..And never forget. You LOST the last election and I still haven’t stopped laughing at that fun fact. Beat it. thx..
Lake
Lake,
It may all be moot anyway. From what I have heard from my conservative friends who actually listen to him, he isn’t going to pursue any legal action.
What a moron.
Part of me suspects he knew he would get rejected and pursued it anyway just for the publicity. His a showman, after all.
He isn’t going to pursue any legal action BECAUSE THERE IS NO CASE HOMIE. NONE, ZIP, ZERO…. Tell your conservative friends that. If he had a case, any case, he’d do something, if nothing else, to make a splash.
Politics exceed the scope of my typical commentary, I try to stick to titties and other non-polarizing subjects. But I do have to say this entry’s title is not unappreciated by this reader. Well done.
