People take mixed martial arts for granted now. We think of the martial arts all mixed together now. But back in the day they were mixing fighters together that had different styles. It was actually a pretty interesting concept. Could karate beat judo? Could Mui Thai beat kick boxing? Could Boxing beat Mui Thai? Could a little fast guy beat a big, strong fast guy? It used to be anything goes out there.

Tank Abbott used to be the poster child for the sport. Big, Fat Brawler who could take a hit. Karate guy up there is about to catch a straight right to the jaw piece. Back in the day though, people didn’t really know what they were in for, especially the boxers. Take Art Jimmerson for example. He was a light-middleweight boxer who was fighting mixed martial arts. You know how there are just some plans that you know aren’t going to work on paper? Before anyone even tries to actually execute them? This was one of those times. This dude decided to come into the ring with one boxing glove. Art said “one punch is all it is going to take”.

The crazy thing is that he’s got the boxing glove on his lead hand. How is he going to throw his big right if there isn’t a glove on it? He thought he was going to knock dude out with a jab? I guess he had some concept he might need a free hand for something, but damn, he never even gets to throw the thing against Royce Gracie.

He gets choked right out too. This is about when everyone who got into mixed martial arts found out that they needed to have jiu jitsu or they might as well not even step into the ring. Come on Bruh!
